  • Fire detection: Install smoke, heat, and flame detectors throughout the building and connect them to quickly notify people of a fire. Test and maintain the detectors regularly. 
  • Fire suppression: Install fire suppression systems, such as sprinklers, standpipes, and fire pumps. 
  • Fire extinguishers: Ensure that fire extinguishers and fire hose reels are available. 
  • Escape plan: Create an escape plan and practice it with everyone in the building. Make sure everyone knows where to go in the event of a fire. 
  • Fireproof materials: Use fireproof and fire-resistant furnishings, such as curtains and cabinets. 
  • Smoking: Create designated smoking areas and prohibit smoking outside of them. 
  • Fire risk assessment: Conduct a fire risk assessment at least once a year. 
  • Fire drills: Conduct regular evacuation drills. 
  • Emergency access: Provide easy access to the building for emergency workers, such as a fire department entrance.
